Judith (Judy) T. Phair is president of PhairAdvantage Communications, a Washington, DC-area public relations and marketing consulting firm with a special focus on education and nonprofit associations. The firm’s full range of services includes strategic planning, government relations, media relations, editorial services, and events management.

A public relations executive with extensive experience in marketing, media relations, fund raising, legislative relations, and communications, Phair was most recently vice president for public affairs at the Council on Competitiveness, a nonpartisan, nonprofit Washington, D.C.-based association of corporate chief executives, university presidents, and labor leaders working together to set a national agenda for U.S. leadership in global markets, technological innovation, and education. She has also served as vice president for institutional advancement at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, assistant dean of external relations at Johns Hopkins University, and vice president for public relations at Goucher College.

Phair has consulted on communications, marketing, and media relations for numerous clients, including the American Council on Education, Columbia University Teachers College, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola University of Chicago School of Law, the King Hussein Foundation, the University of Tennessee, the University of Maryland, the University System of Maryland (the Universities at Shady Grove), the University of Southern California, and Drexel University, among others.

Beginning her career as a newspaper reporter, Phair has held public relations positions at the University of Michigan and University of Cincinnati and PHH Group (now part of Cendant). She has been an adjunct faculty member at Goucher College and Towson University, teaching both graduate and undergraduate public relations and writing courses. She is also a frequent speaker and the author of several articles, books, and chapters on public relations issues.

Phair has won numerous awards for her work in public relations, marketing, and crisis communications. A member of the board of directors of the Public Relations Society of America since 2000, she is currently President and CEO of the 20,000-member organization. The Maryland Chapter, PRSA, honored her with its 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award, and she belongs to the Society’s prestigious College of Fellows. Phair has also served on the board of directors, American Red Cross, Central Maryland Chapter, and has been active in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), chairing events at the district and national levels.
